Artist Bio
Lauren Chiara arrived in the valley in 2018 after 30 years in the San Diego area. After retirement she served on several artist focused boards and enjoyed teaching many of her innovative art classes at several local San Diego wineries for over a decade. Since coming to the Valley she has taught art for the SVMoA in Hailey and has even stepped in as the art teacher for Wood River High School for a semester.
Her art currently focuses on ceramics, incorporating her love for mixed media, painting and sculpture.
Artist Statement
My work in hand built ceramics is an exploration of the unpredictable. Every piece is an experiment in color, texture, and form, designed to capture joy and draw interaction. I love to combine form and function bringing beauty to every day, useful items.
Glazing is where the magic (and a bit of controlled chaos) happens. I love to push the materials to their limits, layering multiple glazes, slips, and underglazes to create intense depth, variation, and texture. I approach this process like a painter, incorporating hand drawn figures, underglaze transfers and glazes to pool, drip, and interact with the heat of the kiln
