200 River Street West, #203, Ketchum
I grew up in Vermont and bought my first camera kit at the age of 16 with income earned over a summer of lifeguarding and teaching swimming. The beauty of the natural world inspired me but it wasn’t until 1991 when I began making a career of image capturing. For close to 30 years I was a professional photographer on the World Cup ski circuit and officially retired in 2019. Over that time, I continued to take photos of the beautiful landscapes (or other things that caught my eye) wherever I was, but they lived in my computer. In 2020, during Covid, I decided it was time for the images to come out of my electronic devices and onto other media. While I have standard landscape images, I have done some playing with other images through different digital films and filters to give a new look to the image. In the fall of 2024 I opened my studio/office in Ketchum.
My photography career was launched in the world of sports journalism. I always got a thrill when I felt like I captured something really significant in an image; that I was telling the story of the event in one image. The yahoos and the boo hoos (as I called it) in the finish area of a ski race, or the perfect moment when the skier was bending a gate, or looking between the gates (as on the March cover of SVPN magazine) were gratifying. During Covid, I was spent time looking through old photos. It occurred to me that I have so many beautiful images, taken through a lifetime, that just live in my electronic devices. I had the sudden feeling they were desperate to get out. I had time to play with those images. I applied different digital films and filters to what I was taking. I made the realization that I had been making images for other people in the past and now I was making something for ME. Now I was making art. I offer both standard, unaltered images where the beauty of nature speaks for itself, as well as some that have been put into a more creative presentation. The wall art I offer is on canvas, metal or acrylic, but I also offer gift items such as tote bags, note cards, puzzles, etc. with these images.
