Artist Bio
Fine art has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. It was only when I
retired a few years ago that I had the time and opportunity to pursue art making
seriously. I view it as my fourth career. Lacking formal art training, upon retirement, I
enrolled in “Art Center at Night” classes at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena
CA. Over a three year period, I pursued courses in drawing, oil and water color
painting, portraiture, abstraction and studio practice. I interned in a working artist’s
studio for six months and then rented a studio in downtown Los Angeles. I have since
established studios in Southern California and the Wood River Valley in Idaho. On the
collecting and curating side of the art world, I have held directorial and leadership roles
in the Jonathan Art Foundation that holds a leading national collection of works by
early Californian Plein Air Artists.
My work has been selected by SUN AIRPORT ART COMMITTEE (SAAC) at the
Friedman Memorial Airport twice for their six month juried shows. I have exhibited in a
juried show at Sturt Haaga Gallery in Los Angeles and sold several paintings in Los
Angeles and in the Wood River Valley to private collectors.
Artist Statement
Making art forces me to really “look” at the world and at the same time gives my
imagination an outlet long denied. I also enjoy the process of learning and attempting
to master established techniques and materials and experimenting with new ideas. I
am particularly interested in color and think that this element of art can communicate
ideas most effectively above all others.
Finally, I hope that the joy and excitement that I feel when a project goes well can
radiate to others who see the work.
